Font Aid VI: Aster Affects is available from SOTA (Society of Typographic Aficionados). The font is a collaborative effort of 241 designers who contributed glyphs to the project. They can be used freely in your own projects or sites with few restrictions.

Aster Affects is a font of imaginative shapes based on the humble asterisk. Fun to play with and use. Restrictions disallow use of any of the glyphs as the basis for a logo. While there are plenty of other uses for star-like shapes, logos commonly employ similar designs, but I understand that even donated glyphs are creative and personal works. In any case, some of the glyphs might provide inspiration as a springboard for your own designs.

Last year’s project was Font Aid V: Made for Japan, a collaborative type face with glyphs donated by about 300 talented contributors, is still available from MyFonts and Veer.

The Made for Japan collection is filled with interesting, beautiful, and whimsical glyphs suitable for a variety of design projects. Many images are iconic symbols of Japanese life and culture. Get it while you can and know that your purchase is for a worthy cause.

Each annual Font Aid project is released by SOTA as a charitable work. They donate all proceeds directly to disaster relief or other worthy causes. Font Aid V proceeds were donated for the relief of victims of the 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and tsunami.

Font Aid projects remain available for a year or so, and then disappear. Font Aid IV: Coming Together a font comprised of ampersands, is still available, but earlier projects, such as Font Aid III: Fleurons of Hope, have disappeared.
